Modular Governance

Rules that evolve with the community

Modular Governance is the principle that SWIM’s platform rules — fee structures, content policies, Drop economy mechanics, dispute resolution processes — evolve through community input rather than unilateral decision. Sellers on SWIM are not just users; they’re participants in the system’s governance.

This matters because platform rules have direct consequences for seller businesses. A change to the fee structure, or to what types of offers are permitted, or to how disputes are resolved — these are not neutral technical decisions. They affect real people’s livelihoods. Those people deserve a voice in making them.

What “modular” means

The “modular” in Modular Governance refers to the fact that not all rules need to be uniform. Different contexts, seller categories, and market conditions may call for different policy configurations. A governance system that forces a single global rule set onto every seller in every context is brittle and often unjust.

SWIM’s governance architecture is designed so that rule sets can be scoped — some rules apply platform-wide, some can be configured at the Workspace level, and some may eventually be configured by seller communities around shared contexts. This modularity is what makes the system durable as the platform grows.

The path toward community governance

In SWIM’s current phase, governance is centralized by necessity — the platform is young and the community is still forming. But the architecture is being built with the transition in mind. Seller participation in governance will expand in phases, beginning with consultation on major policy changes and moving toward formal seller voting mechanisms as the community matures.

The long-term vision is a governance structure where the sellers who depend on SWIM’s infrastructure have a proportional say in how that infrastructure evolves — including the rules that govern SWIM’s own take rate, the dispute resolution process, and what categories of commerce the platform serves.

The Kingdom Fund

Modular Governance governs how SWIM’s rules evolve — but one rule does not evolve. 10% of all gross revenue goes to the Kingdom Fund from day one, permanently, and this commitment is not subject to governance votes. It cannot be reduced.

The Kingdom Fund directs those funds toward widows, widowers, the fatherless, and the imprisoned — through organizations and programs SWIM believes in and can stand behind publicly. Transparency is mandatory: allocation and disbursement are publicly reported so anyone can verify the commitment is real.
